Ultraviolet Clarifiers for Algae Control In Outdoor Ponds

The TetraPond Green Water Clarifier (Ultraviolet Water Clarifier) provides a
permanent solution to the problem of algae which causes "green water"
in your pond. Once installed it ensures that the pond stays clear of algae by
preventing its re-development, thus creating crystal clear water while reducing
the possibility of disease problems.
Green Water: The TetraPond Green Water, while providing a solution to the
problem of green water, does not rectify the cause ie: High levels of nutrients in
the water. These should be controlled through good planting, regular quality
testing, and if necessary water changes. Allowing nutrients to build up to high
levels can stimulate the growth of troublesome algae such as blanket weed.
How the TetraPond Green Water Clarifier Works: The clarifier works by exposing
single celled algae to very high levels of ultra violet light as the pond water
containing them is pumped through the unit. The ultra violet radiation not only
kills the algae but causes them to clump together. These clumps can easily be
removed by using a pond filter. For most ponds with normal levels of green water
the algae clearing process should take about one week, however with thicker
algal blooms this may take 2-3 weeks. The clarifier will kill the algae, but
water clarity is dependent on the pond filter removing dead algae.
When installing the clarifier on a pond which already contains green water the
clarifying process can be rapidly accelerated by carrying out regular water
partial water changes and the use of TetraPond AquaRem.
Installing the TetraPond Green Water Clarifier: It is designed for use
with standard garden pumps. It is important that all pumps have a pre-filter.
For correct size refer to chart. The Pond Clarifier is not submergible and
should be positioned where there is little likelihood of flooding the unit or
falling in the pond. It can be mounted
on any surface including the lid of TetraPond Filter. When the UV Clarifier
is mounted on top of your TetraPond filter you can use the enclosed clamps and
screws. The unit should only be connected to a power supply receptacle protected
by a Ground Fault Interrupter (GFCI).
Maintenance: Where algae densities in the pond are very high the unit
should be cleaned regularly (every 3-5 days). Until the problem is under
control. Carefully dismantle the unit by first unscrewing the unity cap and
removing the bulb. The quartz tube may be loosened by using a small coin or
screwdriver and can then be carefully removed. Clean with a soft cloth to avoid
scratching the quartz. When reassembling ensure that the sealing rings are
properly seated (lubricate with a small amount of petroleum jelly if necessary.)
Replace the bulb every 8000 hours (about once a year.) All UV bulbs lose the
effectiveness over time.
