Community Tank Suggestion #6- Mild-Mannered Cichlids
Examples: Severum Cichlid, Kribensis
| General: | Here is a very easy way to
maintain a tank that is filled with active, colorful fish. It consists of a
mixture of peaceful members of the Cichlid family with similar sized
gouramis, sharks and catfish. |
Tank Conditions: |
This community group is suitable for tanks 20 gallon or more with standard filtration and heating. (For filtration we recommend an undergravel filter and an outside power filter.) Because many of these fish will grow large, best results are obtained if you use a tank of 30 gallons or more. Plastic plants are best because these fish may uproot live plants. Temperature range 75-82. Maintain 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons. Decorate with a variety of rocks and hiding spots. |
Feeding |
Feed twice a day with standard foods such as flake food, Tetra Bits brine shrimp, plankton, bloodworms and algae tablets for your catfish. For increased growth rates feed 3 times a day. An occasional missed feeding will not hurt. Larger fish can be fed pellets and krill. Occasional live food such as live brine is recommended for best color. Live plants may be supplied for feeding over short vacations or as a treat. |
