Community Tank Type 5
Tiger Barbs / Active Community Fish
Tiger Barbs are a great
community fish.. They are colorful, active, and very hardy.
Unfortunately they have acquired a reputation as aggressive because they
will nip fins of slow moving fish such as guppies or neons. The solution
is simply to keep them with other active fish. This community tank is
great for beginners because there are so many hardy fish . Barbs and
gouramis are best purchased in groups.
Housing:
This community tank is suitable for tanks 20 gallon or more with standard
filtration and heating. Because many of these fish will grow, best results are obtained if you
use a tank of 30 gallons or more. You can use live or plastic plants.
Temperature range 75-80. Maintain 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons
Feeding: Feed twice a day with standard foods such
as flake food, ( Tetra Pro ) brine
shrimp, plankton, bloodworms, Tetra Color Bits, and algae tablets
for your catfish. For increased growth rates feed 3 times a day.
Special notes. Do not mix Silver Dollars
with live plants.
Start with small specimens of sharks, gouramis , barbs and loaches. Some
fish may have to be moved to bigger tanks when they grow.
