African Frog
General (Xenopus laevis): An interesting addition to many tanks, the African Frog lives its entire life underwater. Will remain motionless for long periods of time and then dash about the aquarium. They look good in groups, but can be kept as singles. Compatibility: They are compatible with fish of similar size. Not recommended to mix with neons or guppies, but does well in community tanks with medium sized fish. (Community #1, Community #2, Community #3, Community #4, Community #5, Community #6) Tank Conditions: Standard tank conditions. Requires tight fitting cover. Maintain temperature of 65-85 degrees. Feeding: They will eat a variety of standard foods including "Tetra Bits" and flake food. Also give them freeze-dried tubifex worms, or TetraRepto-Min tablets. Feed once or twice a day. |

If they grow too big: Sometimes these frogs can outgrow your
tank. You may have to move them into another tank with larger fish.
You could also return them to Elmer's.
Breeding/Sexing: Mature males sometimes have dark strips of rough
tissue on the underside of their front legs.
Other Varieties: The Dwarf African frog is smaller and can be kept with small fish.
