Cricket Care

Crickets are a great food source for lizards, large fish, tarantulas, and many other pets.  They are easy to keep, soft bodied, and provide most essential nutrients.

How to Keep Crickets: Keep crickets in a large plastic container, or small aquarium. . Place bran cereal on the bottom.  Place several old paper towel tubes inside to provide hiding spots. To prevent dehydration we recommend " Cricket Water Bites". "Cricket water bites are gel-like water pellets.  Put a few water bites in the cage each day and the crickets will get their water.  If you do not want to use cricket water bites then put a few slices of potato in the cage daily.   Maintain temperature of 60-80 degrees. Crickets will live for about 7-10 days.

Gut loading crickets: A technique used by many successful hobbyists is to feed the crickets a nutrient loaded diet a few hours before feeding them to the lizards.  Elmer's sells special cricket food that can be used for gut loading.
