Silver Dollar General: These fish are suitable for a wide range of community tanks. They are peaceful, active and hardy. Peaceful with fish of similar size. Not aggressive even towards smaller fish. Is capable of defending itself against fish that are somewhat larger, and therefore adults can be mixed in most Cichlid tanks. Silver dollars mix well with Swords, moons, large tetras, sharks, gouramis, catfish, barbs, mild cichlids. Longevity: 4-7 years. Housing: Tank Conditions Standard tank conditions, but be careful with live plants, they will eat plants. Feeding: Feed standard foods once or twice a day. A good portion of their diet should be plant material. They will shred most live plants in the tank. A group of anachris is recommended as a food source. Quick growing when in large tanks. Notes: Difficult to sex in the store but in adults the mature males have an anal fin which is convex in the front. Females front part of anal fin is straight. There are several species of fish that are sold under the Silver Dollar name. These usually include members of the Mylossoma genus, or the Metynnis genus.
