General: Moons, also known as platies, are very popular aquarium fish. They are hardy, active, peaceful, and inexpensive. They are members of the livebearer family (Poecilidae). Most moons offered for sale are raised in Florida. Compatibility: Very peaceful. Mixes well in most community tanks. (Community #1, Community #2, Community #3, Community #4, Community #5) Does well with swords, mollies, other moons, tetras, gouramis, sharks, catfish and small angels. Looks best in groups of 3 or more. (1-male, 2-females) |

Housing: Give them plenty of swimming room, and some bushy plants for hiding. The addition of at least one tablespoon of salt per gallon is advisable. Maintain a temperature of 75-80 degrees. Many problems can be avoided by proper temperature and salt. Their tank should have a tight fitting cover.
Feeding: Feed standard foods 2 or 3 times a day. Some greens in their diet is advisable. Good choices include flake food, brine shrimp, bloodworms, Tetra Color Bits and live plants.
Size: Reaches full size of 2" at 3 months.
Longevity: Average 2 years.
Problems: (Bent Spine) due to old age, or inadequate diet. Increase frequency of feeding. (Hollow Belly ) Increase frequency of feeding; increase temp. to 80 degrees.
