Guppies
General: Guppies are small, peaceful and colorful fish. They do best in filtered aquariums with other guppies, or with other small peaceful fish. Their tank should have a heater, some live or plastic plants, and some aquarium salt. They should be fed small, frequent feedings. |

All of the Fancy guppies that are sold at Elmer's come from local breeders, unless otherwise marked.
Compatibility: Guppies do best in a tank set-up just for them. A tank filled with fancy guppies and plants is best. If you want to mix them with other fish choose other small peaceful fish. Here is a community tank suitable for guppies: Community #1

Housing: Give them plenty of swimming room and some bushy plants for hiding.
The addition of one tablespoon of salt per 5 gallons is recommended. Maintain standard filtration. Maintain temperature
of 76-82 degrees. Keep pH 6.8-7.4. Do partial water changes every
2-4 weeks.
Guppies can be maintained in tanks from five gallon or more.
Feeding: You should feed your guppies small amounts frequently. Feed standard foods 2 or 3 times a day. Use a good flake food as the basic diet. Some good supplements include bloodworms, tubifex worms, Tetra bits, and frozen brine shrimp. Some greens in their diet, such as Tetra Spirulina flakes is advisable. Improper feeding can result in sunken bellies and other problems.
Longevity: Average 2-3 years.
