Live Rock

What is Live Rock
Live rock is pieces of reef rubble that have broken off during storms or through wave action.  A renewable resource, this material is found in great quantities in most reef areas and is typically colonized

Benefits in a marine tank
 *   Live rock is colonized by a wide variety of marine organisms.  When placed in the home aquarium the live rock adds biodiversity to the system.
 *    Live rock adds sufficient surface area for nitrifying bacteria to colonize, and provides biological filtration.
 *    Anaerobic zones within its core that house other types of bacteria that convert nitrate to harmless nitrous oxide.
 *    Live rock creates a natural look for the tank, and provides a more natural home for fish.
